Why do wedding photos take up such a large chunk of our budget?

As a photographer, I am always looking at photographs. I love to flip through photo albums from my parents' childhood, peruse my elementary school yearbooks and ogle my wedding photos from last year.

Of course, I also love to click through my past clients sessions and see how happy they are with their loved ones, or how they learned to be comfortable and confident in themselves while flying solo during one of our portrait sessions.

As a photographer, I chat with clients about their budgets for their upcoming wedding photographs all the time. I was married about 11.89 months ago and I can speak with experience from both sides of the bride/photographer table- the most important thing that you will spend your hard earned dollars on will be your wedding photographs.

It seems hard to shell out more than 1,000 dollars for something you can hire your best friend from elementary school with the nice camera and kit lens to do for an 8th of the price, right? True, they will give you a discounted price. But they will also give you a discount in image quality.

There is so much thought, time, skill, talent and effort that goes into photographing a wedding. It takes passion too! Speaking for myself, I L O V E a good love story and telling that story through photographs that my clients will treasure for the rest of their lives- that is my passion.

Yes, we photographers get that budgets are tightthere are many things on the to do list to cover to ensure that you will have your perfect wedding. But what about making room in your budget for the kind of photographs that will insure that you will remember your special day in a way that keeps you staring for hours as you and your future children flip through your wedding album for years to come?

Those photos will be all you have after your cake is gone, your wedding dance is over, the honeymoon is a blissful memory and life continues on, dragging you further and further away from your wedding day and into the years of life and marriage and babies and fun ahead of you! :)

Bottom line, I made choosing a quality and talented photographer the biggest priority in my budget for our wedding last year- and I am so so grateful! I love our wedding photos and can spend hours staring at them if I'm not careful :).

As a professional photographer I recommend to all brides out there who are planning their weddings- find a photographer that you love! Pay them what they deserve for their 50+ hours of work and talent that will go into giving you a wedding album that you will cherish even after the big day has passed. Take the photos now, because you never know when they will be all that you have left!

Below are a few favorites from a 10 year anniversary session I did for a friend who wasn't too crazy (to put it lightly) about her wedding photos! We had a blast channeling their inner newly weds a few weeks ago!

Cheers!

2017

I honestly can't believe how quickly time seems to fly the older I've gotten. Not that I think I'm old per-say, but as the years roll on, the faster they seem to pass. 2017 has been a great year with so many fun experiences. It has also been a year that has brought challenges, big and small, old and new. In 2017 we worked, we played, we cried and we laughed. 2017 brought us a perfect, wonderful baby boy. Wyatt is seriously one of the brightest lights in my life. Becoming a mother has been wonderful and I'm grateful that with each passing day it seems to get easier and more fun. It was rough going for the first few weeks, with "baby blues" and sleepless nights. But now whenever Josh and I sit and look at the cute faces our baby makes, when we listen to his giggles I can't help but feel like we are a puzzle, each making the other whole. We tried to do as many fun things as we could before I gave birth in July. For Josh's 28th birthd

My FREE Online Fitness Faves!

There are so many new fitness apps and fitness gurus out there. I've been wanting to try some of them but whenever I would click on their link to join, the monthly price was just too much for me to pull the trigger. Don't get me wrong, I may some day choose one because they are generally much cheaper than a gym membership and very effective programs. However, right now in our college, penny pinching phase of life saving money is key! I bought some $7 resistance loop/bands from amazon and pulled up YouTube to search for work outs and I came across 6 fitness channels that I LOVE! Being stuck inside with a toddler and pup during this FREEZING winter has made me feel like I'm majorly slacking on my fitness since we don't get out to walk/run much. These free fitness videos, tips and work outs have helped me feel so much more like myself this last month. So, if you're like me and you want to get more effective "in home workouts" without paying 20-something

HOW TO ROCK AT BEING BOTH A FUR MAMA & A BABY MAMA

I've always loved animals. As a kid I would beg my mom to let us have a dog; I would come up with chores to do as bargianing chips hoping that the trade would be enough to get a puppy for my birthday or for Christmas. I would collect animal fact cards & magazines & I loved to pour over encyclopedias of Dog Breeds. Later in life, as a newly wed, the incessant desire to have a dog of my own resurfaced. Josh and I would sit in bed and google puppy pictures of different breeds that I had been interested in over the years. October 24, 2015 was the day that everything fell into place when I found a flyer for Australian Shepherd puppies that were for sale in Elk Grove, CA. We came home that night with our sweet, fluffy puppy and named her Ruby Lou &  our lives have never been the same. So much joy, love and comfort fills our days that we spend running, hiking, swimming and snuggling with our sweet fur baby. These last (almost) 3 years have been awesome with her by our s
