4th Of July!

Growing up Christmas was always my #1 favorite Holiday of the whole year. As I got older I started to develop a love for Independence Day! (Of course Christmas is still up there on the list, but for different reasons than when I was a kiddo.)

I think my love for the 4th of July stems from the tradition that my friends and I started in High School of climbing a hill near our house to get the best view of all the fireworks going off all around our town. We usually preceded the fireworks with swimming and BBQ. These 4th festivities usually included my then crush and now husband which also made it the best holiday :) (Shirtless and tan teenaged hubby- YES PLEASE! Such good times!)

Over the years and after the local wildfires our hills are always blocked off and patrolled so our tradition has taken a hiatus for now. But my love for the 4th remains in tact!

I am super excited to celebrate this year because now we have a little one of our own! Wyatt will be One in a couple weeks (wahhh!) and remembering a year ago, it is fun to be here 365 days later, not pregnant and running after my cute baby!

I am grateful for our Freedom and country! I am so grateful to celebrate the place that my babe and family will be able to grow up free and strong.

God Bless the USA!

Why do wedding photos take up such a large chunk of our budget?

As a photographer, I am always looking at photographs. I love to flip through photo albums from my parents' childhood, peruse my elementary school yearbooks and ogle my wedding photos from last year. Of course, I also love to click through my past clients sessions and see how happy they are with their loved ones, or how they learned to be comfortable and confident in themselves while flying solo during one of our portrait sessions. As a photographer, I chat with clients about their budgets for their upcoming wedding photographs all the time. I was married about 11.89 months ago and I can speak with experience from both sides of the bride/photographer table- the most important thing that you will spend your hard earned dollars on will be your wedding photographs. It seems hard to shell out more than 1,000 dollars for something you can hire your best friend from elementary school with the nice camera and kit lens to do for an 8th of the price, right? True, they will give you a ...

HOW TO ROCK AT BEING BOTH A FUR MAMA & A BABY MAMA

I've always loved animals. As a kid I would beg my mom to let us have a dog; I would come up with chores to do as bargianing chips hoping that the trade would be enough to get a puppy for my birthday or for Christmas. I would collect animal fact cards & magazines & I loved to pour over encyclopedias of Dog Breeds. Later in life, as a newly wed, the incessant desire to have a dog of my own resurfaced. Josh and I would sit in bed and google puppy pictures of different breeds that I had been interested in over the years. October 24, 2015 was the day that everything fell into place when I found a flyer for Australian Shepherd puppies that were for sale in Elk Grove, CA. We came home that night with our sweet, fluffy puppy and named her Ruby Lou &  our lives have never been the same. So much joy, love and comfort fills our days that we spend running, hiking, swimming and snuggling with our sweet fur baby. These last (almost) 3 years have been awesome with her by our s...

Six Months as a Mother

My baby boy is 6 months old. I have absolutely no idea how this can be true but alas, it is. I just sit and stare at him sometimes in awe at how quickly he learns to do something new and how bright he makes every room that he smiles in. Time is flying by so fast that it's hard for me to feel like I'm caught up on my mental "to do list."  But I have watched my sweet boy grow and develop. I've learned so much about myself and the natural drive I have to be a good (enough) mother. I always knew that I wanted to have children. I knew I wanted to raise strong, intelligent and faithful kids, but I really didn't know how much my heart would love it.  I live every day for my babe. I love to see him smile, giggle, sleep, cry and learn new things every day. When I sit in his nursery with my sweet baby at my breast I am filled with so much love. I am filled with a stillness that I want to hold on to forever. Looking down at those fluttering eye las...
