Ruby Lou

I should write about Ruby Lou since she's my little furry BFF and I love to show off photos of her!

Like before mentioned, I've always been a little obsessed with animals, though in the years leading up to getting serious and getting married, I never really thought I would get a puppy as a newly wed...that lasted about 3 months! Haha.

In October of 2015 I began to seriously want a puppy. I'm not sure what exactly possessed me to start those childhood dreams up again, but there they were. Josh humored me and let me show him puppy photo after puppy photo on my phone as we lay in bed falling asleep.

Then came October 24th. It was a Saturday and I decided that I would go get the phone number off of the bulletin board at the grocery store up the road from our house while on the way to Lagoon Valley to run with my mom. I had seen an add for Australian shepherd puppies there a week before and I had kept thinking about it. So after grabbing the phone number, I started texting with the breeder and she sent me a photo of the cutest little red-tri aussie females. I was hooked but decided that I wanted to check out the pound first before heading to Elk Grove since I like the idea of adopting a rescue animal and I still wasn't sure we actually should get a puppy.

I spent our whole run talking my mom's ear off about wanting a puppy and I stopped all the dog owners we passed and asked them about their dog experience. I happened to pass TWO Australian shepherds and that fanned my puppy fever flame!

Well later that morning I met Josh at the local SPCA and fell in love with a little female dachshund/german shepherd puppy mix. I cried when we decided to leave without her. Like seriously cried. It was sad! But we didn't feel right about her at the moment and decided to think on it more.

That evening we went to a friend's wedding with Josh's parents in Old Sacramento. The whole time i was so anxious thinking about the meeting we set up with the breeder in Elk Grove to come check out the litter after the wedding! Josh's parents, being dog owners themselves were super excited to drive us on our puppy crazed adventure. We arrived at the ranch around 9PM and were smitten with the 11 little Aussie pups staring back at us from their pen! (From that day on I've regretted not taking photos of them! We were just so overwhelmed!) The breeders, Lea and Heather brought them all out to the barn and we got to sit there in our dress clothes (haha!) and play with all the fluffy little pups! I had such a hard time choosing between our little Ruby Red-Tri and her cute Blue Merle chunky brother. They were both so cute! Josh and stepped off on our own, each of us holding a puppy and tried to decide... Josh wanted Ruby and though I was obsessed with the little merle boy, I'd wanted a female over a male so we decided! Ruby-Lou it was! We ran to the bank, withdrew $350 bucks cash and left with a tiny fuzz ball and a bag of her food! I was in shock and totally smitten.

Till this day (only 5 months later, mind you ;}) I've never once regretted adding Ruby to our family. She is fun, beautiful, soft, hilarious and super active and smart, not to mention loyal. We love her so much and can't wait to eventually teach her our future favorite trick, babysitting!

2017

I honestly can't believe how quickly time seems to fly the older I've gotten. Not that I think I'm old per-say, but as the years roll on, the faster they seem to pass. 2017 has been a great year with so many fun experiences. It has also been a year that has brought challenges, big and small, old and new. In 2017 we worked, we played, we cried and we laughed. 2017 brought us a perfect, wonderful baby boy. Wyatt is seriously one of the brightest lights in my life. Becoming a mother has been wonderful and I'm grateful that with each passing day it seems to get easier and more fun. It was rough going for the first few weeks, with "baby blues" and sleepless nights. But now whenever Josh and I sit and look at the cute faces our baby makes, when we listen to his giggles I can't help but feel like we are a puzzle, each making the other whole. We tried to do as many fun things as we could before I gave birth in July. For Josh's 28th birthd

My FREE Online Fitness Faves!

There are so many new fitness apps and fitness gurus out there. I've been wanting to try some of them but whenever I would click on their link to join, the monthly price was just too much for me to pull the trigger. Don't get me wrong, I may some day choose one because they are generally much cheaper than a gym membership and very effective programs. However, right now in our college, penny pinching phase of life saving money is key! I bought some $7 resistance loop/bands from amazon and pulled up YouTube to search for work outs and I came across 6 fitness channels that I LOVE! Being stuck inside with a toddler and pup during this FREEZING winter has made me feel like I'm majorly slacking on my fitness since we don't get out to walk/run much. These free fitness videos, tips and work outs have helped me feel so much more like myself this last month. So, if you're like me and you want to get more effective "in home workouts" without paying 20-something

HOW TO ROCK AT BEING BOTH A FUR MAMA & A BABY MAMA

I've always loved animals. As a kid I would beg my mom to let us have a dog; I would come up with chores to do as bargianing chips hoping that the trade would be enough to get a puppy for my birthday or for Christmas. I would collect animal fact cards & magazines & I loved to pour over encyclopedias of Dog Breeds. Later in life, as a newly wed, the incessant desire to have a dog of my own resurfaced. Josh and I would sit in bed and google puppy pictures of different breeds that I had been interested in over the years. October 24, 2015 was the day that everything fell into place when I found a flyer for Australian Shepherd puppies that were for sale in Elk Grove, CA. We came home that night with our sweet, fluffy puppy and named her Ruby Lou &  our lives have never been the same. So much joy, love and comfort fills our days that we spend running, hiking, swimming and snuggling with our sweet fur baby. These last (almost) 3 years have been awesome with her by our s
